Sri Lanka’s Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) offers temporary driving licenses for foreigners right at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) arrival terminal. Here’s a complete guide on how to obtain one hassle-free.



✅ What You Need to Get Started



To apply for a temporary driving license at the airport counter, make sure you have the following:


  1. A Valid Foreign Driving License


    • Only full driving licenses are accepted for conversion.

    • Provisional, learner, probationary, or temporary licenses are not accepted.


  2. Translation (if applicable)


    • If your license is not in English, you must provide a certified English translation, ideally from your embassy.


  3. Passport and Visa


    • A valid passport with a visa or entry permit is mandatory.
